About Abigail
Abigail Grace Cox was born on January 9th, 2003, in Fishers, IN. She tragically passed away on July 5, 2023, due to injuries sustained in an auto accident in Green Forest, AR. Abigail was serving as a Counselor/High Elements Facilitator at Kanakuk Christian Camp. At the time of the accident, her team was on their way to Sam's Throne in the Ozark Mountains for a day trip to hike, climb and rappel. She is survived by her loving parents, Joe and Kathy (Crawford) Cox, and her younger brother, Elliott. Abigail was known for living her life to the fullest and being unapologetically herself. She had a captivating smile, a joyful laugh, and a sense of sass that made her family feel blessed. She was a natural leader and enjoyed being a big sister to her brother Elliott. Abigail was also known for her energy, her ability to make others feel seen and heard, and her love for Christ. Abigail was a 2021 graduate of Hamilton Southeastern High School. Abigail was a true Royal and was blue and white through and through. From the moment she attended the Royal Rumble before the start of her freshman year she knew she wanted to be a member of the school’s pep club, The Blue Crew, and she did just that for all 4 years, serving as President her senior year. She also engaged in swimming, lacrosse, student council, Principal’s Advisory council, GAK (Guiding all Kids) and National Honor Society, which allowed her to grow as an individual and contribute to her school community. Her efforts and positive influence were recognized when she received the SAGE (Setting a Good Example) award her senior year. Abigail was a junior at Purdue's Mitchell E. Daniels Jr. School of Business at the time of her passing, and she had plans to pursue a master's degree in Human Resource Management. It is clear that Purdue recognized her potential as an emerging leader, and she embraced her new school with great enthusiasm, transitioning her loyalty from her high school colors of blue and white to Purdue's black and gold. During her time at Purdue, Abigail excelled in building connections with people and helping them grow. One of the strongest connections she formed was through her involvement in the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Zeta provided a nurturing environment that fostered a sisterhood rather than conforming to a mold. Abigail found that she could be her fun, zany self as well as her spiritual self within the sorority. She was a fiercely driven leader and was described as a passionate Zeta by her sisters. She served as Panhellenic Delegate, VP1 and Risk Manager within the sorority. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Her Family
Abigail is survived by her parents, Joe and Kathy and her younger brother Elliott. Throughout the years they have enjoyed many traditions and fun experiences together camping, hiking, vacationing, and celebrating holidays in fun and festive ways. As a family, they created wonderful memories of love and laughter that will last a lifetime at thier home on the lake. As Elliott begins his freshman year at Purdue University, they will draw strength from all that Abigail has taught them through her life on how to be the best example of faith and love and compassion.
Her Faith
Abigail's faith was a guiding force in her life, and she actively served as a Wyldlife leader and Holy Spirit at Geist Teen Life leader. In the recent summers, she was part of the Young Life Work Crew at Timber Wolf Lake and the Summer Staff team at Clearwater Cove. Furthermore, she was a Young Life leader through Purdue University and participated in Purdue Greek IV.This summer, Abigail reached a pinnacle in her relationship with Christ as she served as a counselor and part of the Ropes and Wild Team at Kanakuk. This experience allowed her to deepen her faith and prepare for eternal life. It is evident that her time at Kanakuk was a transformative period for her, where she found further fulfillment in serving others and growing in her relationship with God. In addition, she was deeply challenged physically at Kanakuk. During training, Abigail spent countless hours achieving certifications for the high elements course as well as climbing and rappelling. Her love for Christ was evident to all who encountered her, and she truly embodied the love of God. She had a depth to her faith that has been shown to us again and again through this tragedy. She faithfully pursued the Lord and did so with a servant heart. Abigail's impact on teens, campers, friends, family, and even strangers will continue to resonate, as her light shines on through the memories and lives she touched. While our hearts are broken, they are also filled with peace knowing that her light shines on in the world she left behind.
